The Indianapolis Zoo's giraffe calf needs a name! And you can help!
The Zoo is inviting the public to participate in a Facebook poll to help name its newest addition, a male reticulated giraffe calf born Nov. 8 to 3-year-old giraffe Kita. The calf weighed 137 pounds and stood six feet tall.
Zookeepers have preselected three names and the option that receives the most votes will become the calf’s name. The choices, along with their pronunciation and meaning, are: Kendi (KEN-dee), an African name that means “loved one”; Tumaini (too-MAH-ee-nee), a Swahili word meaning “hope”; and Zane, an African name that means “noble”.
The poll is open now and voting will continue until noon on Friday, Dec. 4. The chosen name will be announced Monday, Dec. 7. Voting will take place exclusively on the Indianapolis Zoo’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/indianapoliszoo/
Facebook users can vote once per day. Additionally, one Zoo fan will be chosen at random to receive an Indianapolis Zoo prize pack, including four Zoo admission passes and a giraffe plush.
