From Shawna Sims, Senior Director of Shelter Services at IndyHumane, here is the new protocol for adoptions at the shelter:
Effective Friday, March 20, IndyHumane will be implementing Adoptions by Appointment. Our Adoption Center will be closed to the general public. Families interested in adopting may view our Adoptable Animals on our website. If they see an animal they are interested in adopting, they will find a link to the Adoption Application in the animal’s profile.
General Applications will be reviewed by our CS Team in the order they are received. Behavior Applications will continue to be reviewed by our Behavior Teams. Applicants will receive a response within 24 hours. If the family is a good match for the animal they have chosen, a phone counsel will be performed and a meet & greet will be scheduled. Scheduling appointments allows us to limit the number of Patrons in our facility and also allows us to sanitize properly between Patron Visits.
Meet & greets for animals who are in the shelter will be scheduled for the following day. Meet & greets for animals who are in Foster Homes will be scheduled within 1-3 days as we will need to coordinate animals being brought back to the shelter by Foster Parents. Adoptions will be finalized after successful meet & greets. You can view what Patrons see when they visit the Adoption Page of our website by going to www.indyhumane.org
Update regarding our Vaccine Clinics:
Patrons may now check in for services at the door and then return to their cars. The patron receives a text when the clinic is ready to serve them. At that time, they may enter the clinic.
For Volunteers interested in joining our Foster Family Team: Our highest need is going to be for foster families who can take in large dogs. Click here to submit a Foster Care Application, https://indyhumane.org/foster_application/ Jessica Kanalos, our Foster Care Manager, will be in touch with online orientation information for incoming foster parents.
