Love takes time

It’s been a while since I’ve checked in because I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately. I thought finding love would be easy, but so far it hasn’t been. I have had several first dates in the past few months but no instant connections. Here’s a summary of my attempt at summer love …

Leila was my first match. At our initial meeting I was nervous when she entered the room, and she looked anxious too. I tried to be friendly, but when I made a move to go in for a good sniff she ran away. She didn’t even give me a chance – emotionally unavailable, for sure. I gave it my best shot and was open despite the fact that I prefer blondes. She probably wasn’t over her last boyfriend. Who wants to be the rebound guy anyway?

Then there was Sugar. She looked sweet as could be in her profile, and I was excited to meet her. But what seemed like a perfect match online didn’t translate in person (or in canine). There was no chemistry at all – from the start. Nothing. She was cute and blonde, but I wasn’t feeing it. I hope we can at least be friends.

Then Reba showed up. I would put her in the “old flame” category although we have never had a committed relationship. Reba lives in New Mexico, and the long distances make it really hard. But every time she’s in town I get excited when she runs out of her grandma’s front door across the street. Her energy and playfulness are contagious (and being a blonde doesn’t hurt either). I wish I could find a Reba who is more geographically desirable. I’m not willing to relocate at this time – even for true love.

While the search has been discouraging, I’m not giving up. An intriguing redhead moved in on the next block. When our eyes met, I knew there could be something between us. She’s still adjusting to her new home and is not ready for a relationship – yet. But maybe, just maybe, our friendship will grow into something more over time. I think I’ll stop by to see if she wants to go for a walk today.

By the way, her name is Susie, but I call her Ruby. She’s even prettier than the slippers.

Love is really hard. It takes time and lots of patience, but it can also be exciting. Who knows what or who is around the corner. Maybe the mutt of my dreams?

Stay tuned!
