Our pets are beloved members of our families, which is why their safety and well-being are always a top priority. However, even the most well-behaved dogs and cats can sometimes wander off, leaving owners worried and unsure of their whereabouts. But modern pet parents want much more than knowing where their pet is at any given moment — they want to talk to them when the house is empty, hear back from them during a thunderstorm, and pick up on the small signs of stress, loneliness, or excitement before they turn into a problem.
Whether you are at work, on a business trip, or simply in another room, the everyday question is the same: how is my pet really doing, and how do I stay connected to them? The petpogo PetPhone is built for exactly that question. Powered by advanced AI tech, this device positions itself as the 1st AI Smartphone for Pets — a new category of pet device that opens an active, real-time communication and care channel between owners and their pets, instead of simply reporting their location.
At its core, PetPhone features 2-Way PetChat, allowing owners to speak directly to their pets in real-time via its mobile app to soothe separation anxiety. It also features AI Emotion technology, allowing it to proactively detect your pet’s emotions by using an AI function that decodes barks and meows, specific to your pet, into human-readable text messages using the latest AI & LLM learning.
The device boasts 6 location technologies, including GPS, AGPS, LBS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Active Radar. It features multiple locator modes and offers up to 5 days of battery. Via the petpogo app, you can talk to your pet in real-time, set virtual fences, receive alerts if your pet leaves the safe zone, check their daily activity data, monitor their wellness, and also get wellness reminders if your pet is moving significantly less than usual.
This first-of-its-kind wearable smartphone for pets transforms passive monitoring into an active, 2-way communication, AI and voice-based locator companionship.
In this review, we’ll discuss the PetPhone’s design and build, its 2-way communication system, the AI Emotion Insights and Proactive State Detection that define this new category, its multi-technology Active Geo-Fence, the petpogo app experience, battery and connectivity, and who this device is really for.

Design, Build Quality, and Wearability
Starting with the device’s size, the PetPhone has a compact form factor, so it doesn’t take up much space on your pet’s collar. The device is designed with pets’ comfort in mind. It measures just 2.16″ long by 1.29″ deep by 0.72″ thick (55 x 33 xx 18.5 mm). While it may look somewhat bulky on collars of smaller pets such as small dog breeds and cats, the device is fairly lightweight, weighing only 1.30 oz. (37 g). As such, you can rest assured it won’t cause discomfort to your pet, as they’ll barely notice it’s there.
Note the PetPhone is recommended for pets weighing more than 7.72 lbs. (3.5 kg), meaning it’s not suitable for younger pets going through their infancy stages. The PetPhone also sports a modern, cute design that goes well with any pet collar. The device comes in solid colors, including green and pink. It also packs a durable construction, and is rated IP67.

Two-Way Communication Between Owners and Pets
The PetPhone’s two-way communication system represents one of its most distinctive capabilities, as it allows for proactive care and in-depth bonding. This creates a complete sensory bridge that makes pets feel like true family members, even remotely.
Powered by advanced AI Emotion Insight technology via LLM, this revolutionary device completely redefines traditional smart collars, moving far beyond passive GPS tracking to provide active, real-time proactive State Detection. Seamlessly integrating with the petpogo app, it features 2-Way PetChat, allowing owners to speak directly to their pets in real-time via the petpogo App. This functionality allows pets to hear their owner’s voice regardless of location, thus helping to soothe separation anxiety from anywhere in the world.
When the owner sends a message, they can select from a curated Voice Library or send their own information. If you send a human language voice, the dog will hear your actual human voice played out loud (the system does not attempt to translate human words into dog barks). If you choose to send a pre-set “sound memes” from voice library, the device will play that specific sound effect to the dog (barks). If you send a plain text message, it will detect and play a related bark sound to the dog, thanks to Emotion AI. (Requires firmware version 0521/2.4.1/ or higher; lower version won’t play bark)
The device can also send a “Request to Talk” from the pet to the owner’s phone, which the owner can then answer for two-way voice communication. The call from your pet is triggered by certain trained behaviors like jumping up and down 3 times, or other detected actions. It functions just like a normal phone call where both the human and the pet can hear each other’s real audio. The human’s voice comes through the collar’s speaker, and the dog’s vocalizations come through the owner’s phone. Furthermore, if your dog barks or makes noises during that live call, the built-in Emotion AI actively analyzes those sounds and decodes their emotional state into human-readable text on your screen in real-time.
The standard “Send Message” interface is a one-way command channel; the dog does not have a live audio reply channel within this specific chat interface. (Live audio capture and text translation specifically occur during a “Voice Call” or within the dedicated “Emotion Analysis” interface.
For many pet owners, this feature alone may justify the product. Separation anxiety remains one of the most common behavioral issues among companion animals. A familiar voice often provides reassurance during stressful situations.
Similar to sending a WhatsApp text, pet owners can type messages that trigger playful “sound emojis” from a tailored voice library to talk to their pets. With multi-user family sharing, every family member can join in, sending their own voice cues or messages to stay connected with the pet anytime, anywhere. You can also play pre-recorded messages or your pet’s favorite music remotely to ease loneliness when you’re away.

AI Emotion Insights and Proactive State Detection
This is where the petpogo PetPhone goes beyond what a wearable can usually do. Alongside its location and activity capabilities, the PetPhone focuses heavily on interpretation — helping owners understand what their pet is feeling and doing, not just where they are.
In addition to its 2-Way PetChat function, the PetPhone can actively detect your pet’s emotions using an AI State Detection function that decodes barks and meows into human-readable text messages or emoticons. Instead of over-promising accurate “translation” since pets lack structured syntactic language, PetPhone utilizes a specialized large language model (LLM) to analyze barks, meows, behaviors, and ambient contexts. This functionality provides AI Emotion Insights, acting as a companion tool for instant fun chats and behavioral training support. Furthermore, its sophisticated sensor ecosystem unlocks Proactive State & Emotion Detection. By analyzing regular or abnormal actions, whines, and barks, the built-in AI predicts pet intents and pushes live mood updates to owners for sophisticated wellness management.
That matters because subtle wellness problems often appear as behavioral changes before obvious physical symptoms emerge. For example, unusual vocalizations, as well as reduced activity levels, excessive resting, or changes in movement patterns may indicate discomfort or illness. The PetPhone attempts to identify these patterns automatically and alert owners when something appears unusual. While no wearable can replace professional veterinary care, this type of continuous monitoring could help owners recognize problems early on.

Locator Modes and Global Connectivity
Safety remains one of the strongest reasons pet owners buy pet technology. petpogo’s PetPhone includes one of the most comprehensive real-time location systems available in this category. Rather than relying solely on GPS, the device leverages 6 advanced location technologies, including GPS, AGPS, LBS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Active Radar. This combination of positioning technologies improves accuracy across different environments, providing unlimited range for tracking your pet’s location. Traditional GPS can struggle indoors, near tall buildings, or in dense urban areas. By combining multiple positioning technologies, the PetPhone aims to maintain more consistent and precise location technology, regardless of conditions.
Another standout capability is its CloudSIM® connectivity platform. PetPhone is a SIM-free device, achieved by using cloud-card technology. It supports over 390 carrier networks across over 200 countries and regions, functioning wherever network coverage is available without distance limitations.
The PetPhone also offers multiple location modes, including real-time, active radar, plus light and ringing modes. Real-time mode lets you locate your pet accurately anywhere via GPS in real time, while active radar lets you find your pet within 328 ft. (100 m). Finally, for close-by tracking situations, you can use light and ringing modes within 164 ft. (50 m), which provide more precise locating of your pet’s location.

Battery Capacity and Battery Life
For its power, the PetPhone uses a built-in 600mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that can offer up to 5 days of battery life on a full charge. The five-day battery life is a real practical benefit for owners — it means recharging fits into a weekly routine rather than a daily one, so the device stays operational when it matters most.
As for recharging its battery, this can be done by connecting the magnetic charging interface from its dedicated charger to the device’s magnetic charging port. The magnetic charging design also keeps daily handling simple and helps avoid the small frustrations of exposed charging ports, which can accumulate dirt or moisture from walks and water bowls.

App Features
To interact with the PetPhone remotely, pet owners need to install the petpogo app on their smartphones. The app is available for iOS and Android devices. Via the petpogo app, owners can call their pets on the PetPhone, allowing them to talk and listen to them in real time via two-way communication. PetPhone is even designed so that a pet can initiate contact with its owner, although it’s not quite the same as a human making a phone call. The device can send a “Request to Talk” from the pet to the owner’s phone, which the owner can then answer for two-way voice communication. The call from your pet is triggered by certain trained behaviors like jumping up and down 3 times, or other detected actions.
The app also enables owners to locate their pet’s location. You can also set up a virtual fence via the app and receive a “verbal voice warning” when the pet approaches the boundary, followed by a function that automatically dials the owner if the pet escapes.

The petpogo app also records your pet’s historical travelings (i.e. where they’ve been) and displays their activity data, while PetPhone’s AI analyzes that data over time to learn what’s ‘normal’ for them, collecting about 6 weeks of activity data to establish a baseline of your pet’s typical exercise routine.
The app also offers owners wellness monitoring, allowing them to collect how many calories their pet has burned, distance travelled, and time spent moving. Additionally, it features AI Proactive State Alerts for personalized wellness care, allowing you stay aware of your pet’s wellness on a daily basis. The app sends you notifications if your pet is moving significantly less than usual to let you know they need more exercise.

Why PetPhone Stands on Its Own
PetPhone is best understood not as another wearable in an existing category, but as a new kind of pet device — an AI smartphone for pets. It is built around a simple idea: the bond between an owner and a pet deserves the same active, two-way, real-time connection we already expect with the rest of our family. That ambition reshapes how owners should evaluate it.
It adds unprecedented communication features, wellness monitoring, AI behavior analysis, and emotional insights , together with location services and active communication , and a strong emphasis on AI-assisted interaction and global connectivity.
The trade-off is complexity. Buyers looking for a simple device may not need every feature. However, owners who want safety, communication, wellness monitoring, and behavioral insights in one device may find the integrated approach quite compelling.
The petpogo PetPhone is currently available in two stylish color options: Green and Pink.
If you’re interested in purchasing it, know pricing starts at $89.99. The device comes with a one-month trial service for the petpogo app. Once your one-month trial expires, you can opt for a 1-year ($96), 2-years ($144), or 3-years ($180) subscription plan.
For pet owners invested in using the device on a daily basis for a long period of time, the company also has a 1-Year Pack available for $149.99, which includes the PetPhone plus 1-year of the standard Basic Service Subscription.
