It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that Grateful Rescue and Sanctuary in Muncie has to cancel this year’s Grate Tail Wagging Fest scheduled for Sept. 13. Last month, our community experienced a devastating and historic flood. Morrow’s Meadow, the beloved home of our festival, was completely submerged.

The devastating wildfires in Spokane, Washington, and other western states have affected wild animals and pets in those areas. Best Friends Animal Society has stepped in to help with aid, seeking donations from pet lovers everywhere.

Can a tiny Yorkie rescue from small-town Indiana become the top dog in a national competition? Carolyn Pope hopes so. Her 5-year-old Yorkshire terrier, Bella, is in the running. A resident of Red Key, Indiana, near Muncie, Pope entered Bella in the Pet Lovers Choice Awards, a fan-voted national awards show sponsored by USA Today to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society. Both cats and dogs were eligible, and a winner from each state was selected along with runners-up.
