Taffy's Touch gives senior dogs another chance at a forever home
November is National Senior Pet Month, and Pet Pals TV is celebrating with a cause close to many hearts.
Barbara Lively from Taffy’s Touch Senior Dog Rescue and retired WFMS morning show legend Jim Denny stopped by to introduce two very special dogs to Patty and WISH-TV's Gina Glaros, and make the case for giving older pups a second chance.
Barbara brought along Dolly and Steel, two senior rescue dogs currently in her care and available for adoption. Steel’s story is particularly moving — he was found in the home of his owner, who had passed away, and no one knows how long he was alone. Now, he’s being vetted and cared for as he waits for a loving family.
Taffy’s Touch, founded in 2020, focuses exclusively on senior dogs. The rescue doesn’t turn dogs away if they aren’t immediately adoptable — instead, they become forever fosters or hospice fosters, ensuring every older dog lives out their days surrounded by love.
Jim Denny, who spent 35 years on the WFMS morning show before retiring in December 2023, found his way to Taffy’s Touch through a personal experience. When his mother could no longer care for her dog, he went on air and Taff’s Touch came through immediately, finding a foster who eventually adopted the little Chihuahua named Sissy. He’s been a supporter ever since.
“I worry about squirrels that run across the road,” Denny joked, showing just how deep his love for animals runs.
Barbara also noted that while senior dogs may come with some extra patience required, occasional accidents included, they offer something puppies simply can’t: calm, steady companionship.
“They’re going to sit with you on the couch,” she said. “Just love them.”
