This Weekend: Dixie’s positive impact, wildlife rehab, combating pit bull stigma, and introducing kids and dogs

Patty Spitler presents Pet Pals TV, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on WISH-TV and streaming here at PetPalsTV.com. Here's a look at the stories we'll have for you:

Dixie the Praying Dog, a therapy dog dedicated to helping disabled kids and veterans, is a blue-tipped coonhound who just celebrated her 10th birthday. Patty talks to Dixie’s human, Brian Calvert, about the positive impact she has at events around the country. Listen to her howl! Swipe right on photos for more.

Pit bulls often get a bad rap. Find out how Brandi Craig and Caitlin Haynes, of Lucci’s House Bully Rescue, promote responsible pet ownership and work against the stigma associated with bully breeds. Rescue dog Otis is there to help, too!

Meet a big, handsome bird named Churro, a crested caracara who is a member of the falcon family. Patty talks to Krissi Williams from the Animal Care Alliance about how the organization’s wildlife rehab works to get animals healthy and release them back into the wild.

Therapy dogs lead the pack when it comes to helping clients and patients get healthy with a smile. Animal therapy manager Emily Smith of Eskenazi Health talks to Barney Wood about a program that shows how dogs should be safely introduced to babies and children.

Actress Katie Cleary also is one of the world's most prominent animal activists and documentary filmmakers. She currently is working on a film about wolves called “Protectors of the Wild.” Our Steve Sweitzer spoke with her about this amazing project and her passion for understanding and saving wildlife.
