A Texas house cat did not merely reach old age. Creme Puff lived long enough to outlast generations of ordinary pets. Her record became almost difficult to comprehend.

Born on August 3, 1967, she lived with owner Jake Perry in Austin until August 6, 2005. That made her 38 years and 3 days old, the longest verified feline lifespan recognized by Guinness World Records.

Her life stretched from the Apollo era through home computers, the internet, and the early years of social media. Even more remarkably, Perry had previously owned Grandpa Rex Allen, the cat who held the record before her.

Creme Puff’s achievement has remained unmatched for more than two decades.

Her nine lives became nearly four decades, turning one Texas house cat into the enduring benchmark for feline longevity.
