Catching up with Indianapolis Animal Care Services

“Pet Pals TV” host Patty Spitler joined News 8’s Gina Glaros and Amanda Dehoney-Hinkle, director of Indianapolis Animal Care Services, to catch up and share what’s new at the shelter.

Dehoney-Hinkle mentioned the new building that IACS is in. She thinks this new building makes the shelter more visible to the public. Since moving to the new building, they have seen an increase in the amount of animals brought to the shelter. This is likely due to people being more comfortable bringing their animals in.

One of the amenities of this new building is a new surgery room which has four surgery tables. Dehoney-Hinkle says that they now need to find a full-time veterinarian to work at the shelter.

Dehoney-Hinkle says that the shelter is currently at capacity. She says that a big challenge right now is trying to get the animals in and out of the shelter as quickly as possible. One of her biggest goals for the year is decreasing the length of time that animals stay.

One of the biggest ways to help the shelter, according to Dehoney-Hinkle, is to sign up to be a volunteer.
