Patty Spitler joined News 8’s Stacy Schooler and Krissi Williams from Animal Care Alliance, who brought in a female red-tailed hawk and wildlife ambassador, Ozzy.
Ozzy visited the studio to highlight wildlife safety and education ahead of the spring season. The rescue bird has lived with the alliance for eight years and is a permanent resident due to her acclimation to humans.
Because Ozzy is too comfortable around people, she cannot be released back into the wild. Instead, she serves as an educational ambassador to teach the public about the importance of predators in the ecosystem; a single hawk can consume approximately 1,400 mice per year.
