Cars, coffee and candy featured at Grateful Rescue's fundraiser for pit bulls
A nine-year mission to save pit bulls is coming to Zionsville this weekend, where adoptable dogs will be featured alongside a collection of classic cars, supercars and motorcycles.
Grateful Rescue, a Muncie-based organization, will participate in the annual Cars & Coffee – Trunk or Treat event from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Graham Rahal Performance in Zionsville.
The free, family-friendly event will feature decorated cars, creative costumes and trick-or-treating candy stations. Attendees also can visit the Grateful Rescue booth to learn more about the organization’s mission and meet dogs looking for permanent homes.
Pet Pals TV’s Patty Spitler spoke with Pamela Terhune, founder of Grateful Rescue, about the organization’s mission to rescue animals and find homes for thousands of dogs and cats, with a focus on pit bulls rescued from Indianapolis Animal Care Services.
Terhune said animal shelters across the region continue to struggle with overcrowding, but Grateful Rescue remains committed to taking in pit bulls.
“Right now, all the shelters are struggling because everybody’s at capacity and making tough choices, but we’re doing great. We’re still taking the pitties,” Terhune said.
Grateful Rescue helps fill a gap in Central Indiana’s animal welfare network by rescuing pit bulls from overcrowded shelters and finding them permanent homes. Terhune’s commitment to animal rescue extends to her own home in Muncie, where she cares for 10 dogs, including her pocket pit bull, Reesie.
“Muncie’s a no-kill community, and the shelter here has to make some tough decisions when they get at capacity,” she said.
