Salad-hating cat gains in popularity

Canadian feline has more than 1.2 million followers on Instagram.

You know that popular “woman yelling at cat” meme that’s been appearing all over social media? He’s quickly becoming as famous as Grumpy Cat and other popular felines that people have fallen in love with!

His name is Smudge and he lives in Ottawa, Ontario. His owner, Miranda Stillabower, says he always gets a seat at the dinner table “or he’ll freak out.”

One night in 2018, Smudge was without a seat, so he stole one from a salad-eating guest. He wasn’t impressed with what was on the plate.

“He only eats meat, so I would have to say that he’s always hated vegetables,” said Stillabower.

Stillabower snapped the now-famous photo that shows Smudge with his ears tense and mouth ajar, sharing it on social media.

Smudge would rather eat meat!

According to CTVnews.ca, the image was originally posted to Tumblr in 2018, but became an internet sensation when a Twitter user combined it with a screenshot from a 2011 episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” to become the “Woman Yelling at a Cat" meme.

“Both the images of Taylor Armstrong and Smudge were already widely used as reaction memes online, but together they became one of

the most popular jokes on the internet,” says the website.

The Instagram account for Smudge (@smudge_lord) has gained more than 1.2 million followers in less than six months and his owners launched a merchandise website where they sell coffee mugs, T-shirts, sweaters and baseball caps – all emblazoned with Smudge’s salad face.
